I'm also using firefox 3.0.1 and its fine although I'm not using a widescreen monitor,Darragh,
I'm still having problems with layout.
I'm using firefox 3.0.1.
here's the screen shot.

I'm not getting the dark vertical bands on either side of the screen you are getting ?!

I was also having the same issue this morning. The problem is a 'conflict' between your PC's cache and the new design not automatically refreshing. Simply hit F5 on your keyboard to refresh the screen and it will come up fine.
