Thanks Matthew
I have no intent of speaking badly about Telescope-Service, I even sent them an e-mail stating that the fault was in no way at their end, they have been very understanding of the situation.

Hi Guys
Paul, really sorry to read about your experience with UPS!
Just by coincidence I have been reading this tread while just yesterday and today I have been dealing with UPS regarding a delivery. Here’s the story…
I ordered an automated wireless weather station from a company in the USA; it was dispatched almost as soon as I ordered. UPS called to my house in Meath; however, myself and my wife were at work, so the driver left an official UPS note at my doorstep saying that delivery will be attempted next day at same time (the note did state that the same time could not be guaranteed). It was a COD, so I or someone authorised by me needed to hand over some cash and sign for delivery.
I decided to leave a note on my doorstep for the UPS driver to deliver next door (with my neighbour’s agreement of course); I signed the UPS authorisation docket In order for this to happen.
.
UPS driver called next day and read note, however an unexpected occurrence happened and my neighbour was unavailable to take delivery  .
The UPS driver rang me immediately on my mobile phone (I previously forwarded contact details to the company in USA while ordering) and in fairness to the UPS driver he told me the situation and how to resolve it (if third attempt failed the package goes back to USA apparently!). So I asked him if he could deliver to my work place in Dublin the next day, “no problem†was the reply and he promptly changed the details there and then! Indeed I did receive that nice piece of kit without a scratch and delivered as promised to my place of work next day!
Perhaps it was just luck, but I found them to be helpful, even when I phoned their customer service to officially confirm delivery to Dublin work address, I was through to a rep straight away and everything was sorted in a very amicable way!
Clear skies

Nice to see you had a good result Mike, it's clear that house is somewhere in the vicinity of a black hole and the Oops driver couldn't see it  .
There was no second attempt at a delivery, "I can't find it, so tough."
I guess like everything else in life, there are good experiences, and there are bad experiences.

Sorry to hear about that Paul. I had a big issue with UPS on a parcel from the US, in short the driver decided to skive off early and put down that I had 'Requested deferral' I kicked up murder. Finally spoke to the manager for north Dublin, gave him some serious stick and in the end he made the driver deliver the package later than day in his own time and in his own car. Needless the say the driver was none too pleased.
The last packet i got from AnPost I just happened to go to the front door and the postman was pushing a failed delivery notice through the letterbox. I asked him why he didn't knock, he said he did. He did no such thing, I was standing in the hallway for about 5 minutes before this.
This is what were up against:(

I have never had a problem with an Post. The security desk in Limerick will give out small packages on a saturday morning even when the depot is closed as long as you have the docket and some ID.
I did have a recent horror story with a delivery company delivering a large SCT OTA down from Dublin. I had put my work address and phone number down as the delivery address. The driver tried to offload the package at the wrong company. If it wasn't for the receptionists at both companies being deligent and contacting each other, I could have lost the entire shipment.
I always prefer to collect things like this in person if it is at all possible (obviously not from Germany or the USA)

Funny you should say that. I've found a few of those notes in my door on days when there's been someone home all day and they swear no one rang the bell.
