Did you know that the Vikings were the first Europeans to reach America and that they used the position of the stars to navigate their ships well away from any visible coastlines ?

Contested. What time are you placing this at, bearing in mind that St Breandain the Navigator did it some time in the fifth to sixth century.

Only a legend which has been proven possible.
Only a legend he documented.
So, no, it's part of a history.
First hand documents count as historical evidence. The fact that it could have been done also.
And one in which he is believed to have gotten as far as America.

Hi All.

Time to put the cat amongst the pigeons.

Contrary to popular belief the Book of Kells was not written in Ireland, it was written in south west Scotland.

St. Brendan the Navigator did make it to America. When Tim Severin undertook the so called Brendan Voyage in 1975-76 many aspects of that journey corresponded to events reported by St. Brendan.

Possible Ogham writing has been found in Newfoundland, West Virginia and at a few sites as far west as the Missisippi and possibly beyond.

Cheers,

Spaceboy
