inviting people round to fix their scope in return for soup, showing pictures of Carl frightening pretty TV personalities at astro events etc. etc. that, in my opinion anyway, is ON topic

Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better programs, and the universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the universe is winning.

I just feel many of you dont allow for any level of social interaction................apart from astrononomy.
Thats what i cant deal with.

At the risk of beating a dead horse.
I think everyone does allow for social interaction here. There is always a bit of jokey banter in a lot of threads. That is social interaction Paul.
Starting threads about lisbon on an astronomy forum is not social interaction, it is wanting to discuss a subject totally unrelated to astronomy. Even that is fine on a global well funded astronomy forum like Cloudy nights where there bandwidth is virtually unlimited. Its a simple fact that this forum cannot afford unlimited bandwidth and must keep threads on topic to save money.
This forum is like your favourite teachers in school.
One didn't like the strict teachers who never smiled or laughed and stuck rigidly to the text barely interacting with the class.
One loved the teacher who keep the discussion in the class close to the subject but let discussion go of on tangents and who you could joke and have a laugh with within reason.
You didn't like the weak teachers who let the class run riot which led to chaos and no one learning anything.
This forum is like the teachers I loved. You seem to think its like the strict teacher while wanting it to be like the weak teacher.
Have I stretched the analogy too far!
