Hi,
Anyone who saw Michael Hincheys talk at the Burren Starparty would hopefully agree that it was a facinating talk and a hint of what's to come in the Nasa line of exploration in the coming decades.
Apparently the Irish Times also think so!

His ideas are truly innovative and is material I have never seen the likes of before, Almost science fiction like, which is funny as he is definitely not a science fiction fan.

Hi Dave …Yes it is amazing how GRS has gone from pale pink to a nice orange colour.
I have a theory ………….yeah ….every one has a theory right!

OK here it is, what ever caused the second belt to disappear impact or something else.
Could it be that the GRS has taken some of whatever material that made up the (brown/orange) belt….mad or what?

Might not be all that mad Tony, the coloured material had to have gone somewhere,
Have a look at this pioneer image of Jupiter back in the 70's, look familiar ?

It'll be interesting to see if the equatorial belts darken just like in the pioneer image or will the southern belt come back first.

I'd be interesting to see (if it could be done) a
Time lapse of the planet which might give some
Indication of movement of the belts over a long period.
Like the way you run a satellite sequence of cloud cover to try
and figure out it's movements
(obviously there there is lots more going on
There and the dynamics if the pressure / wind systems
Are very complex) still it'd be interesting to see I think.

Dave, had a look at that photo, wow the GRS is huge and colour is so strong also noticed the southern equatorial belt is somewhat weak in colour.

Frank, Yeah it would be nice to see a video sequence of when all this happened, I’m sure some of the big guys have this information.

Out of curiosity and as a simple exercise I think I’ll have a look at Cloudy Nights, Solar System Imaging forum, they have a wealth of top class images of Jupiter over there.

1. Check out last time the planet had two prominent belts and when it lost its southern one; I think this happened over a night or two.
2. See what colour the GRS was prior to this.

Might as well seen as my Dec motor failed (but that could be another thread)
