Got to Lidl in Togher in Cork at around 7:50 , there was about six people waiting there. There was a large pallet with about 20 on it.
Put it together, looks good, but the rucksack is tiny.
Can't wait to use it but it seems there is alot of fog tonight.

I was contemplating getting one as a guide scope, but I had it my mind to use the old 60mm refractor I got many years ago. It then occured to me last night that the scope does not have a 1.25" barrel  , so off I went to lidl this morning and got the skylux.
I have to say that I'm impressed by this little scope, the mount is much more substantial then I had imagined, given the price. I've already modified it to carry my 4" refractor and the 70mm will find a new home piggybacked on the 12", althought I'll have to use the barlow with it for good tracking. Lens quality doesnt really matter when it comes to the image quality of a guider scope.
I'd recommend this scope given the price, the mount alone is worth the money.
Most of the etxs and skylux's were still in the shop at 9.30, the uptake is much lower then last year, I suppose all who wanted one got one last year.

It doesnt have one Anthony.Dear Friends,
A question to those buying (or aware about) the 70mm refractor: does the cradle ring include the 1/4"-20 screw for attaching a camera atop the telescope?
Anthony.

Dave,
Thanks for the unfortunate news!
I also want one of these to use as a finder scope atop my AP160 refractor as well as a guide scope when imaging widefield with a piggy-backed camera. Hopefully I can retrofit such a screw on the scope's creadle ring.
As for the mount, I plan to use it with my EOS 300d as well.
The offer will be in effect here in Greece starting on Dec 22/2005 (for 79 euros) and I am eager to pick one up. Last year this time we only had the ETX available for sale and I was quite disappointed that the refractor was also not included.
Anthony.

The lens in the Skylux is of a very high quality - well, the one I had from last year was anyway! When used WITHOUT the eyepieces it came with, and used instead with a good (better?) set of eyepieces (for me its a bunch of Celestron Plossls), you won't find a better telescopic view in a similar sized-scope! Extremely limited aberration (blue/red tinge effect), if any, to any object viewed with it.

By now you've seen the moon image through the scope.
I have to say that I'm shocked at the quality of the objective lens, it is extremely good especially given the price.
I expected blue fringes at the prime focus with a camera, there were none!.
The eyepieces on the other hand are definitly inferior, but not unusable.

Dave,
I certainly plan on picking up such a unit locally when it becomes available next week. However, I do have a use for the (cheap) eyepieces which you may also find of interest: turn the eyepieces into parfocal eyepieces for various optical trains using rings along the barrel.
To this end, rather than spending 30 minutes for example trying to nail perfect focus under frigid temperatures, you pop in your preset parfocal eyepiece for "Skylux + EOS 300d", focus using your eye and then replace with camera.
Anyway, now you see how I plan to use these throw-in eyepieces.
Anthony.
