I bought the etx 70 at 11:50 today (mon) in Lidl Ballina for a present. Still 7 left after my purchase so there may be some available for late buyers on tuesday. WARNING! Check box seals before purchase to ensure it hasnt been opened. I saw loads of Bresser 10 x 50 binoculars unwrapped and discarded in baskets 2 weeks ago.

Anthony,
This is a good idea, I just wonder are the eyepiece barrels long enough so as to be used that way, I'll try it out tomorrow.

William,
None of the skylux boxes I saw in the shop for the skylux had any seals on them, all the same I did check it in the car before I left the carpark after hearing about the binos in previous offers.

Hi

Wondering if I could get a answer to an initial problem I’m having.

Picked up the ETX-70AT yesterday at lidl. Haven’t really had the time to go through it extensively yet but I’m having two initial problem with the scope that I hope someone can help me with.

On take the scope out of the box the scope swung feely on its vertical folks. The vertical lock was not on and I found that a little odd. On starting the scope it ran through it axis check and spun the scope on the horizontal axis a few degrees. It then paused (as if it was trying the same thing with the vertical axis??) but then showed an error message staying that that was a problem. Is the vertical motor broken or am I missing something? Admittedly I have yet to read the instructions in detail so there maybe something I’m doing incorrectly however it’ll be the weekend before I and spend time reading through it in detail.

Also the 9v battery connection seems a little loose. When I connect the battery the LED comes on but when I place it in the battery compartment it flickers and then goes out. Is this common, could both problems be related (faulty power not supplying enough power to run the vertical motor)?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi Paul - I just replied to you on Boards :)

Have a look at this thread and see if it's the same problem.

Can you remember what the error message was? Was the scope moving on both axis or just the one?

Try turning the scope on, skip the easy align by hitting mode and then use the arrow controls on the keypad to move it on both axis. Should have a steady movement on both. If the vertical axis lock was loose it is unlikely the motor is damaged- gears wouldnt be in contact.

If the battery connection is loose you will get errors and teh scope will do all sorts of strange things.

Hope this helps!
Dave :)

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the quick response.

The message is Align Failed. Various other thing scroll up including check batteries so it could something to do with the batteries. However the fact the vertical lock was not tight out of the box and I don’t seem to get anything from the vertical motor is my biggest worry. No response from vertical motor when using the arrow keys.

If I can't get this working the motor drive is effectively useless.

Any help on this?
