Dave, I assume you are refering to my PM about the replacement motor?

Its DHL but here is the funny thing,
The driver rang me this morning saying he was outside my house.
I opened the door and there was nobody there.

After a few min of confusion he read out my address.
The number & street were ok but it said Sligo insted of Shannon!
:D

Poor guy.
I explained to him there may be a few people in Ireland getting the same package and
the guys at Meade must have got 2 addresses mixed up.

Anyway long story short.
He's dropping it into work for me tomorow.

Thanks guys, I have a much better version of that image now which I'll put up with some others shortly.

My imager is a Minolta Dynax 5D DSLR which has the benefit of pretty low noise and a very usable ISO 3200 mode. That was a 30 second exposure which through the F5 scope is quite long enough for that subject.

I had some clarity on Friday and Saturday evening during which I got the alignment better but still not perfect to the extent that I can do 1-minute exposures but 3 mins is jsut too long. It should be possible to get better - it just takes time and practice!

Paul.

Well my RA drive did arrived safely on Friday.
Leveled, Polar aligned (Not colinated) then Train, Calibrate and Easy align. Called up M42 in Orion and looked through the main lens and there it was in all its glory. Tracking seemed ok for approx 5 mins.Went to Saturn and there it was. Then the clouds came in.

At least all is ok now and have the time again to do a full setup etc..

A word of caution for any beginner assembling the Meade LXD 75 scope.

In the handbook section Getting Started under ‘How to Assemble Your Telescope’ step 4 describes how to attach the mount to the tripod base by placing the mount over the tripod base etc.

I feel it misses the point that having placed the mount in position the shaft needs to pushed up and screw tightened up and into the threaded hole in the bottom of the mount unit. The portion of thread on the shaft above the e-clip and slots on the shaft has to screw into the mount unit. Otherwise the mount will depend entirely on only the two fine azimuth control knobs (27, Fig. 1d). to secure it to tripod base.

If the unit isn’t balanced properly I could see a nasty or expensive accident, if you are just depending on the two knobs to attach the mount to the base.

After that proceed with the remainder of the steps by tightening the T-handle etc. as described in the instructions.
