Hi Tony,
When you are buying a Telescope it's not about witch telescope is Best. It's about witch one suites your needs. If you want to image the planets get a scope with the highest F ratio possible.Hence why I have a scope that has a Focal length off 3910mm F11. The ota should be 13ft long but it's only 2 and 1/2ft long
C14 (XLT) OTA
Now if you want a scope to do deep sky imaging you want a scope with the lowest focal length possible this is the new scope I'm getting to go along with the 80ED on a side by side plate
William Optics Megrez 110 F5.9 APO

I'm gonna start saving for one of those deep sky scopes. My main interests in the sky are nebulae and galaxies.

Tony --
Meade and Celestron are sort of in the middle: not bad stuff, but definitely built to a price. Orion USA is also in this camp.
I don't know much about the stuff below them.
Above them are some semi-premium makes, such as Vixen, Intes-Micro, William Optics, and I believe Orion Optics. Expect to pay a lot more for entry here.
At the top you have the likes of Astro-Physics, Takahashi, TEC, APM, Software Bisque, RCOS and OGS. Some of these also sell to the professional market. Your wallet starts to bleed in this group.
I'm not sure where to put the high-end Dob makers such as Obsession, StarMaster, Webster and Portaball. Optics-wise, they'd probably go in the top group, but money-wise they're probably semi-premium. (Which is, I guess, the whole point of a Dob.)
