Hi Mike,

Welcome to the IFAS board.

You may or may not knowMike that the subject of UFOs has been very popular area on the IFAS board. IFAS board alone last year had nearly 29,000 hits on the subject posted in 'Are UFOs Real?'

There have been various astronomers and atmospheric scientists, astronauts at a high level whom have either witnessed UFOs or have gone onto projects that concluded that UFOs are definitely real and are extraterrestrial in nature.

Dr Allen Hynek, astrophycisist.was paid by the US government to study them for 30 years. Conclusion "UFOs are real and not hostile. Definetely intelligent".

Professor James MacDonald, Atmospheric Phycisist (Uni of Arizona. stated at an address to a United Nations Outer Affairs Group, that he was convinced that sightings of genuine UFOs were of extraterrestrial entities observing and investigationg Earth and its life forms. He was the Chairman of the Committee in the Congressional hearings with the final report that UFOs are ETs in nature.

Dr Morris Jessop, Professor of Astrophysics at Michigan and Drake University postulated that from the different forms taken in a variety of sightings of UFOs that these objects were ET visitors.

Prof. Clyde Tombaugh, discoverer of Pluto in 1930. When testing new optical instrumentation observed an intelligent disc UFO that defied our aeronautical manoevers. Conclusion "not man made".

Dr Jacque Vallee, astronomer at Meudon Observatory saw a UFO and followed on studies concluded in the ET nature.

Professor Hermann Oberth, father of modern space age. "It is my thesis that flying saucers are real and that they are space ships from another solar system".

Astronauts Gordon Cooper and ED Mitchel (Apollo 14) conclude that UFOs are from other planets. They have said that many astronauts have seen UFOs and they are intelligently controlled.

Regarding the Meier case that you pointed out, this is a worthwhile case to persue, as it provides various physical elements to research. For example the audio, materials, images, etc. It provides the opportunity to do science on the case, either to refute the so called evidence put forward or demonstrate that it is the real thing.

There are many scientists around the world through the Society of Scientifi Exploration whom have researched the UFO phenomena and have come to the conclusion that the material presented is worthwhile researching further. Unfortunately, the scientific establishment has preconceptions about the subject and therefore funding/grants are not on the agenda.

Its unfortunate that there is this discolouration in the thinking amongst most scientists.

Hi Eamonn
Thank you for the warm welcome, much appreciated. Your knowledge on this subject is quite impressive and I am familiar to some degree with your work regarding SETV research (sorry I have not read all of the previous posts on this forum you referred too) yet!
I have studied some of the peer reviewed journals relating not only to your work but also to Dr. Massimo Teodorani and Dr. Erling Strand on the Hessdalen phenomena. I was also quite impressed by T. Roy Dutton’s work in conjunction with Edward Ashpole relating to the “National Institute for Discover Science” essay which came in the top four out of forty-six scientific essays submitted, Re: “The Scientific Search for Evidence of Extraterrestrial Intelligence in the Solar System”. The scientific evidence over the last number of years regarding SETV research has been much more fruitful and compelling than SETI research has been over the last four decades in my humble opinion. I think if you guys even obtained half the funding grants that SETI receives, well the possibilities of firm scientific proof could shift the balance in a more positive and open manner within the scientific community, again this is my humble opinion.
It is good to have lots of varied opinion, as on this forum, at least we are talking about it in a creative and civilised manner and I am grateful for all the comments and insights, this is a learning process for me too.

PS
I have some material that you may be interested in; may I e-mail you directly to converse further?

Kind regards to all and hopefully clear skies

Hi Mike,

In fact T. Roy Dutten's Astronautical Theory was a joint winner of the NIDS contest where he won the $5,000. The examination panel consisted of phycisists and one SETI specialist. It is rare to have theories regarding the UFO field, however, the application of the practical side of his research could be carried out by amateur astronomers. In fact, the experimental side to his work would require many observers at different locations to test the theory.

It is unfortunate and quite amazing, that at the time when he won the competition, no one took up the gauntlet. It was an opportunity that could have been applied on a global scale, rather like SETI@home. May be, like many other scientists, he was to ahead of his time. If the theory worked what would the ramifications be to the scientific community?

Mike, I would be quite happy to receive your material by email.

Dutten is the gent who came up with a method to predict UFO's correct? I've heard of this, but have never seen any papers or actual predictions. Can yourself or Mike give a pointer to the research? Are there papers refuting his theory or showing how accurate it is at predicting events? As you say it is a testable theory if it makes predictions. Is there any algorithm/software available to make the predictions for Irish locations?

T. Roy Dutton had submitted some scientific papers to various scientific journals, all were rejected because they were on the subject of UFOs.
I have a published paper in OSETI SPIE which includes the (AT) Astronautical Theory.

However, my paper was too controversial for the SETI establishment and I had to water it down. The title "A new OSETI observatory to test Dutton's Astronautical Theory" was rejected initially, however, I threatened legal action with SPIE at the time. It took 5 months to eventually get it published by other colleagues supporting me in the process, including the President of SPIE whom heard my presentation. If you were at the last COSMOS 2006, this aspect was shared by one of the speakers.

There is an article I wrote for UFO Online magazine that I believe came out in August 2005 which goes into more detail on AT and the experiments that were carried out during the late 1990s.

The following papers you can obtain below. The first paper below was given out free to all the audience at the COSMOS 2003

“New OSETI observatory to search for interstellar probes”, SPIE OSETI III Conference : The Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) in the Optical Spectrum III, Proceedings of SPIE Vol.4273, January 2001.

“SETV: Opportunity for European Initiative in the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence)”, Proceedings of First European Workshop on Exo-/Astro-Biology, Frascati, 21-23 May 2001, ESA SP-496, ESRIN, August 2001. Abstract also published in Journal of Astrobiology.

Would that be your interpretation of why they were rejected or was that the reason actually given?
