To my untrained eye it looks to be about the same but OBVIOUSLY.........IT IS HIGHER. Hard to tell when a cresent moon in Irish skies appears as a smiley face in the canaries.
btw the moon can never rises in the west.
Maybe i just miss it at times rising it in the east and see it setting in the west...............and think it rose in the west and set in the west.
Paul, why not visit your local library and get some astro books and read up, you'd be amazed what you can absorb by delving into this stuff. I spent the first 5 years in the hobby going through the city libraries books which had a great selection on practical astronomy, astro physics and cosmology. The book that got me hooked (Amateur Astronomy by Storm Dunlop rev1) had such a big impact on me at the time, I got it in Easons and use its maps to this day.
Half the wonder is realising what you are looking at. Bulletin boards can only do so much for you, you come across as someone who would and does want to soak up information, you need to teach yourself by getting out the books.!
At this stage, I practically have a library of books, you cant beat them.
sorry for staying off topic, that's the last of it here, I promise.

Many times I have wondered whether the weather is the real threat to amateur astronomy. For example, we can handle light pollution by visiting dark sites, by doing narrowband imaging and/or pursuing work involving the solar system. However, bad weather takes no prisoners ... it is all-inclusive and no matter how dark your skies may be and/or how good your seeing may be etc etc.

don't worry about July, we'll always have Novosibirsk.

Precisely ... and if only you knew of the amazing conditions and sights available at Mount Parnon! Just be careful not to mistake the Milky Way for a misplaced overhead cloud ... seriously.why do you think we're trekking the entire way across Europe?, for solving our bad weather problems, we go to Greece
Good man! My sentiments exactly and you can also relay your experiences to me in person surrounding Mt Parnon. :lol:don't worry about July, we'll always have Novosibirsk.
