This coud be an interesting tread by itself. What would the Irish have named the constellations. For example, Orion could be Cuchullan with a hurley in his hand about to slay the hound, or if seen from Dublin "that bloke in the skirt"
 just noticed the new thread PJ

€350 return from Ireland to Greece is a bargain.
There is a reason why the stars all have Greek or Arabic names..............
because the Greeks and Arabs could see them. Imagine what kinda names they would have if the Irish could see them back then!!!
Canis Minor would be Madra beag
Canis Major would be Madra Mór
Help me out here people.

As an animal lover (walk 5 Alsations? a walk in the park!), and a giver of jibes at Greeks (My Big Fat Greek Wedding anyone?), plus a chance to see komrad Anto and dance the Zorba together, sure! Got a spare room for me?

This is AWESOME!
Well my Greek friends, this is something I look forward to !!Dave, DO prepare yourself for a starparty in Greece.
given the flights John has found, it has become a feasible trip!.
You will be impressed by the shear physical beauty of our country and the dark skies atop some very impressive mountains.
It would be a real treat for our Irish friends to come to Greece for some great nights under very dark skies.
Vaggelis is in charge of star parties for our local club and he is the person to concult for any information, help, advice etc.
Is komrad Seanie Morrisovich interested in coming as well?
