I and I'm sure the other mods have been watching this thread, and I do think you are right Carl about "you're in a no win scenario".
IF you become cheaper then other European bound shops, then I think you will become very popular very quickly.
I for one dont think AI are price fixing but are in the grip of what celestron dish out to you, and those of you who felt done over , well, caveat emptor!

fair enough, il be the first to go. I have to admit. i didnt buy my scope from AI as at the time ( almost 18 months ago) it was more expensive to buy here than to travel to the UK and purchase it, HOWEVER since Carl has started making waves prices seem to be comming down and getting much more competitive.

I recently purchased my celestron CG5 GoTo mount from Carl and it was at a very fair price. he also included a nextImage planetry imager at no extra charge as he knew from my posts here that I wanted to get into imaging.
Altogether it came at a price that was quite a few quid lower than I would have gotten if i imported from the US/UK or travelled to the UK to purchase myself.

Also note, I let Carl know that I had a CG5(mannual) mount that i was not using and Carl has kept an eye out for a buyer, and actually found one for me ( unfortunately I didnt have the mount available at short notice, no fault of AI, so the sale fell through but fair play to Carl and AI for making the effort to help me rather than just try to flog the potential customer a new mount. Mount and tripod still availiable folks if anyones interested  ).

So yes AI prices were not the best ( past tence) but are now much more competitive and make it quite unattractive to shop overseas for large purchases such as OTA and mounts etc etc. Well done Carl and AI staff for making an effort. not everyone is complaining and I for one congratulate you and am delighted to see the competitive prices comming into play. As long as the prices stay competitive I will certainly come to you guys for any major purchases.

It's amazing how all of those people who got great deals off AI go quiet when threads like this erupt..
