You also have to remember that each eu state has its own VAT rate, 19% Germany, 17.5% UK so prices will vary to a degree.

Yes, VAT will affect the price as will the expence of importing the product so i would expect to see a few bob in the difference but i must stress the word few!!

But this is a fact the effects all businesses in Ireland i was totally shocked at the difference in prices compared to the UK

If Celestron enforece a rule that you can only purchase a product within your counry of residence then thats one issue but why is there such a huge difference in prices from the UK do celestron enforce this? If so there is an issue if not then there is equally an issue? (if you follow)

Carl - how can Conns sell the Celestron Nexstar 8 at E500 less than AI? Unless of course the price from AI quoted in a previous post here is incorrect.
Just wondering.Dave

Could you be comparing apples and oranges..perhaps the Nexstar 8 SE to the Nexstar 8 CPC? There's a $500 difference in the US prices..havent checked sterling or euro.

Hi Guys
Just to verify, the 'scope was a Celestron Nexstar 8SE, price E1399, sold in front of me whilst I was purchasing a Canon 40D. Having spoken with the guys in Conns they have applied what they see as a reasonable margin to the product and are happy to continue to do so, provided they can get supplies. The price quoted from AI is that on their website. By the way, the same 'scope is on sale in New York in BH Photo for $1399, which raises the other issue of anti-competitive practise on this side of the pond!
The guys in Conns still have Celestron stock, check for yourselves - 54 Clarendon street Dublin 2.

Hi Gnason

Perhaps there is an error with the comparison but then use my example of the eyepiece kit. EUR100 difference from UK.

Conns sell the EP kit for €199.99 (out of stock right now).

However...

It is amazing the different prices between Ireland and England (same products, same company). Yet it seems Celestron dealers in UK are not allowed to sell to Ireland.

That sounds mighty illegal to me..................and if not illegal...............it's very suspect indeed.

As stated above......the owness doesnt lie with the dealers but rather Celestron themselves.

My next scope is going to be a Vixen VMC200L Catadioptric OTA
