It can certainly be used without the goto capability, but unfortunately the RA drive problem we are all having leaves you with no tracking capability at all. You could use it in an entirely manual way, but IMHO there's not much point paying for a good equatorial mount and using it like a basic alt-az one.

If you have an fault with this scope then ring:
00 49 2872 8074-210

This is the customer service dep. for Meade in Europe.
They will email you back and ask for your address to post
you the replacement part.
(If you are willing to change it)
If not, just go back to Lidl and get a full refund.

Maybe someone should email a link to this thread to Meade

I suggest anyone who got a faulty one should
send a polite mail informing them of the issue and
commonness of the problem.

This is the reply from meade, ain't heard from lidl yet. Do i need any special tools to remove the R.A motor from the scope?

Just use an Imperial Allen key.
The Imperial one that is between 4 and 5 mm.
